Primary documents first
A fact comes from the lab report itself, the lab's lookup page, a tester's own website or the vendor's own page. Forum posts, review blogs and screenshots passed around are not used as evidence.
Every source is dated
Each fact is stored with the address it came from and the day it was opened. Pages show that date. When we recheck, the date changes.
Verify with the lab where possible
If a report has a test ID or access code and the lab has a lookup page, we run it and say whether the lab's copy matched. If we did not run it, the page says so.
No guessing
If a vendor's page does not state something, we write "Not stated" or leave it out. If a site refuses our request, we say we could not check it.
Report, do not rate products
We describe what testing a vendor publishes and how checkable it is. We do not claim any product is safe or effective, and we do not test products ourselves.
Affiliate links stay out of the facts
Some links pay a commission. They are marked as sponsored. They never change a reported fact, a chip colour or a listed weakness.
Research use only
Pages cover products sold for research and laboratory use. We do not write about use in people or animals and give no medical advice.
Corrections
Send the page and the source to the contact address. We recheck the source and update the page and its date when the evidence supports the change.
Questions about these rules: send a correction or question. Funding is explained in the disclosure.
